Community Workforce Development

Dawson puts the Columbus Region to work by providing employment opportunities, educational programs, and career guidance to job seekers of today and tomorrow.

It's no secret that searching for a job can be a stressful, intimidating, and even scary experience for most people. That's why Dawson has designed Community Workforce Development programs to educate current and future job seekers on job opportunities available, how the job market really works, and how to best approach the next step in their journey.

For high school students

These workforce education programs are making an impact on high schools throughout the Columbus Region.

  • Shadow Days - In conjunction with its Clients and other partner organizations, Dawson connects students to job shadow days to provide career exploration in a variety of workplace settings
  • Class Presentations and Workshops - Led by employment experts from Dawson, government work organizations, and top regional employers; these hands-on, interactive sessions help students apply real-world knowledge to their first job search.
  • Community Job Fairs and Career Nights - Utilizing strong business partnerships, these events introduce students, their parents, and educators to the vast network of companies that are currently hiring and connect managers with a new source of talent.

Dawson Volunteer Match

We believe that helping others goes beyond placing our candidates in great careers. That’s why Dawson associates are encouraged to get involved in the community with our Volunteer Match program. For every 20 hours spent volunteering off the clock, employees earn an extra PTO day before any paid holiday.

Cristo Rey

Cristo Rey High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school with a Professional Work Study Program empowering young men and women of all faiths, from economically challenged families, to graduate from college and achieve a lifetime of success. Cristo Rey Columbus targets under-served youth in Central Ohio. Dawson is a proud sponsor of the work-study program that helps fund the student’s education, hosting four students throughout the school year.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Project Mentor

Project Mentor's mission is to empower Columbus City School students for success through strong mentoring relationships. Dawson supports this initiative with a team of ten that visit Wedgewood Elementary School every Wednesday to positively influence the lives of these young students.

The Better Way

THE BETTER WAY is a street ministry and mission work founded in March of 1986 by Pastor Steve Campbell and his wife Wanda. For the last 27 years, THE BETTER WAY has stood as a place of hope to the homeless and poor in the "Short North" district of Columbus' inner city. Dawson associates donate their time and financial resources to provide 100 brown-bag sack lunches to feed the homeless one Friday each month. Dawson also prepares and serves a hot dinner for over 200 individuals once a quarter.

Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon

Every year Dawson commits to supporting the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon. In addition to a dedicated group of runners, Dawson sponsors a water stop full of volunteers to refuel and encourage runners along their journey.
